– One of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore. This grand intricately designed temple was built by early Indian immigrants and settlers in the 1800s.

♦️ 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗶𝗮𝗵 @ 37 Kerbau Road, Singapore 219168. 

– It stands out in Little India with its vibrant medley of colours. It is a rare surviving Chinese villa in the vicinity, previously owned by the Chinese businessman, Tan Teng Niah, who specialized in sweet-making. Maybe that is why the colours are so eclectic and bright!

♦️ 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 @ 5 Campbell Lane, Singapore 209924. 

– It offers year-round exhibitions, programmes and activities to promote greater public awareness and appreciation of Indian heritage, arts and culture.

♦️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗢𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 @ 366 Race Course Road, Singapore 218638. 

– Also known as Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple. The temple became widely famous in Singapore and abroad, mainly because of the grand 15-meter-high Buddha statue surrounded by a seemingly endless chain of colourful lamps.

Look out for the 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘀 by local artists!

♦️ 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗮 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 @ 145 Syed Alwi Road, Singapore 207704. 

– It is a 24-hour megastore of discounted goods spanning over 2 buildings that are joined by a bridge on level 2 and 6 storeys high. You can find nearly anything and everything here!

In Hinduism, the peacock is a symbol of benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion and good luck - this greets you as you turn into Little India!

We visited Little India’s colourful bazaar and night market.

Did you know that marigold flowers are sometimes called "Herb of the Sun"? The orange and yellow colours are considered auspicious for new beginnings!

Many dazzling stalls at the bazaar!

We bought a box of squeeze-bomb sachets and found a quiet corner to blast away!

We had to protect our ears from the deafening blasts!

Some tips in visiting the temple:
1. Keep the volume down – silent mode on phones and speak quietly!
2. Dress modestly – avoid singlets and short skirts!
3. Remove shoes – racks available outside!
