At-A-Glance

💡 do you know ?

The park was once mined for granite. The quarry has since become a large reflecting pool.

Main Highlights

🥾This 36-hectare park offers a trail through a well-established secondary forest, leading you to a war memorial at the top of the hill & to the quarry pool at its foot.

🌲 Look out for the many interesting species of trees & shrubs, such as the curtain fig – a tree with many aerial roots hanging down from its canopy.
🐻 Keep an eye out for wildlife – free-roaming chickens, monitor lizards, monkeys & many more!

🥾Enroute to quarry pool, find:

Fitness stations Sand playground – Bring along sand toys! Foot reflexology path👣 A small natural stream (ankle-deep) to your left. Bring spare clothes for water play!💦 Nearby toilets with water coolers for bottle refills only!🥂
🐻 Be awed by the breathtaking view of the quarry pool & high cliff wall!
Behind Shelter E, a flight of stairs will lead you up to 2 scenic lookout points to enjoy vantage views of quarry pool. However, we found them largely blocked by thick vegetation.

📍World War ll Memorial Site

The trail peaks at the base of a long staircase, which used to lead to the Syonan Chureito, a memorial site built by the Japanese to commemorate soldiers who died. All that remains are two short entrance pillars & 120 concrete steps leading up to a transmission tower. A memorial plaque lies at the foot of the stairs to inform visitors of the significance and meaning of the location. The site can also be accessed directly via Lorong Sesuai.

The park was developed on an abandoned quarry site in 1988. It was once mined for granite. The quarry has since become a large reflecting pool.

Also keep an eye out for the wildlife! There are many free-roaming chickens in the park! 🐓

The Clouded Monitor Lizard (Varanus nebulosus) is a common sight too!🐊

We also saw a family of monkeys. Watch out for your food! Also, please don't feed them as this disrupts their natural behaviour!🐒

We had no luck to encounter wild boars during our visit but this is good information to note!🙈

Enroute to the quarry pool, there are fitness stations where you can do some light exercises while appreciating nature.

Just next to the Fitness Corner is a sand playground. There is also a shelter by the side.☂️

You can bring along sand toys for the little ones!

If you feel like winding down, try the foot reflexology path by the side👣

The toilets are located nearby, opposite the Fitness Corner.

There are water coolers outside the toilets.

As you approach the quarry, you will find a small natural stream to your left. Fresh water streams are a vital habitat for many species such as fish, frogs and invertebrates!🐟🐸

Bring spare clothes for water play at the ankle-deep stream!💦

Arriving at the quarry, we were awed by the breathtaking view of the quarry pool and the high cliff wall!

Try spotting terrapins in the pool like we did!🐢

Behind Shelter E, a flight of stairs will lead you up to the two scenic lookout points to enjoy vantage views of the quarry pool. This trail also takes you to a war memorial at the top of the hill.

⚠️ Avoid running on this trail as it is slippery and uneven. Walk with care!

😐 This trail involves quite a bit of climbing (stairs and steep slopes). Less suitable for younger kids.

We found the views from the lookout points largely blocked by heavy vegetation. The view is still better from below!

🌲Nonetheless, we really enjoyed the serene ambience of the surroundings as we hiked through the forest.

The trail peaks at the base of a long staircase, which used to lead to the Syonan Chureito, a memorial site built by the Japanese to commemorate the soldiers who died during a fierce battle that took place there during World War II.

The two memorials on the hilltop were torn down when the Japanese surrendered and all that remains at the memorial site are the 120 concrete steps and two short entrance pillars at the base.

A red-and-white television transmission tower operated by Mediacorp now occupies the site above the steps.

🚚 The World War II Memorial Site can also be reached directly via Lorong Sesuai. Parking available at this park entrance too.

More details on the history behind the memorial are illustrated in the storyboard at the base of the long flight of steps.

A memorial plaque lies at the foot of the stairs to inform visitors of the significance and meaning of the location.

About the Bukit Batok Memorials

We scaled the 120 concrete steps, hoping to find something exciting at the top.

Sadly, it led to a dead end. We had a great workout though!

Now, time to make our way back. 🏃
